I have been working recently with some new clients who have moved to Dynamics GP from smaller systems and are used to having a specific GST Report print out of the system. Dynamics GP doesn’t have specific reporting for GST in New Zealand. Implementing the GST Reporting for Australia could be an option, but it disables some of the features our clients like using.
Part of my recent focus has been to try and get some relevant dashboard / query reports set up for clients using the Excel data connectors. They are really underutilised at the moment and I want to see our clients getting good reporting easily – particularly for those sites that don’t have access to bigger reporting tools such as BI360.
So I joined the two problems together and have developed a template that can be used for GST Returns. It is based on three main queries into the database:
Tax Detail Transactions – this reports on all items that have had a tax detail associated with them. Generally this covers all transactions that originate from purchasing or sales.
Financial Transactions – this reports on transactions that might have been coded to one of the GST GL codes and did not have a Tax Detail associated with them. This is generally general journals and bank transactions.
Financial Summary – the queries the balance sheet account summaries for all your GST accounts for the YTD. Essentially the balance of these accounts should match the movements for the reporting period.
There is space to include adjustments that might need to be made (e.g. a payment or refund that is due but not yet recorded) and the GST Return Summary can be used to calculate the correct numbers to enter into the physical return form.
So what’s it going to cost you? Here is a breakdown:
While we could probably do something similar for earlier versions, this report is set up to work for Dynamics GP 2010 and 2013.
