In a live demonstration, Lync Mobile 2013 app for Windows Phone, Android, iPhone / iPad and Windows 8 PC showed off VOIP and Video to an excited crowd. From each of these device platforms, an online meeting was joined from within the Lync app. Video of the presenter was displayed and video was turned on for the app user, giving 2 way voip/video participation. Furthermore, on larger devices such as the Windows 8 PC/Tablet and iPad, full online meeting participation was demonstrated, displaying powerpoints and a shared desktop.
The message was clear that Microsoft is serious about simplifying and "rehumanizing" communication across any platform. They recognized that people choose devices, not communication platforms. This has very positive implications for BYOD strategies, where attendees can join meetings and communicate using the Lync Mobile app from their own devices.
Soon we will truly be able to use Lync across any device the way it was intended, to simplify communications from anywhere, anytime on any device.
